Coach Ian's Background

Ian Lochridge is a USA Cycling certified expert level coach and a national level age-group track (velodrome) racer.  (In February of 2011, he completed USA Cycling's Level 1 Coach's Clinic.) He began coaching in 1999 when a teammate asked his help in reaching her goal.  As a result of applying an individualized training plan, she was able to improve her performance and reach her goal of up-grading a category. Since then,  Ian has continued to learn and apply his experience, providing services and working with numerous amateur, elite, professional, and Masters age-group cyclists to improve their training, performance and racing skills.  He attends bi-annual USA Cycling Coaching Summits held at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO, to maintain an up-to-date understanding of current coaching trends and cutting edge technologies.

Ian began to race his bicycle relatively late in life.  After attending a week-long session at the Walden School of Cycling in the spring of 1995, he entered his first event as a Masters age group racer and won with teammates the Illinois 100-kilometer Team Time Trial District [State] Championship.  Thereafter, he trained and raced "how he felt" with mixed results. Beginning in 1999, Ian followed a personalized training program and won the 2000 Wisconsin - Illinois Best Rider of The Year competition (50+) while maintaining an active, full-time complex commercial litigation practice based out of Chicago, Illinois.

While continuing to successfully compete on the road, Ian won the ABR National Track Championship jerseys for 2001 and 2002 (Omnium winner - 1st place in each of the kilometer, pursuit and match sprint races).  He has competed in over 200 local, regional and national races and has won more than 80 podium finishes.  In 2003, Ian relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, where he continued coaching and competing until moving to Southeastern Minnesota during the fall of 2008.  He currently serves as Curriculum Developer and Coach to the Rochester Mountain Bike Team, a high school age-group training and racing program.

In addition to other responsibilities, Ian coached the NCCA Vanderbilt University Cycling Team for several seasons and served for four years as Director on the Board of the Tennessee Bicycle Racing Association (TBRA).
