Stephen White is a Career and Executive Coach and founder of Competitive Edge Coaching based in Burlington, Ontario. His firm specializes in providing Career and Executive Coaching and Human Resources consulting services to small to medium-sized businesses and not-for-profit organizations.
Over the course of his career Stephen held several senior Human Resources generalist and specialist positions in both the public and private sectors. Most recently, he was Senior Manager, Human Resources and Policy Compliance with Scotiabank in Toronto where he was responsible for the design, development and implementation of the bank’s Occupational Health and Safety Program. Stephen spearheaded the design of the Bank’s policy development function, as well as coordinated regulatory reporting for the Bank with various regulatory authorities. Prior to joining the bank he worked in various generalist and specialist roles across a variety of organizations where he was responsible for recruitment and talent management, employee/labour relations, compensation, succession planning, benefits and HRIS.
Stephen graduated from McMaster University with an Honours B.A. in History and Political Science, and later went on to complete Masters degrees in Public Administration (M.P.A.) and Industrial Relations (M.I.R.) from Queen’s University. He also holds a Certificate in Adult & Continuing Education from the University of Saskatchewan (CACE), and an Advanced Certificate in Alternate Dispute Resolution from the University of Windsor. Stephen has been certified by the Ontario Ministry of Labour as a Joint Health & Safety Committee representative.
Since 1985 Stephen has been an active member of the Human Resources Professionals Association, Halton Chapter, and currently holds the Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) designation. He received his Certified Professional Coaching (CPC) designation in May 2016 from the College of Executive Coaching in California, and in June 2017 he was awarded the Associate Certified Coach designation (ACC) from the International Coaching Federation. Stephen is also certified to administer the EQ –i 2.0 and EQ 360 assessment tools as well as the Personality Dimensions assessment tool.
Stephen is passionately committed and dedicated towards helping those facing workplace and career challenges. From 2012 to 2014 he was a volunteer Mentor with the Halton Chapter of the Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA), and in 2015 initiated the first ever coaching support program for unemployed Human Resources professionals. In addition to his own coaching practice he also serves as a Career & Executive Coach with Career Compass Canada, a leading outplacement and human resources consulting firm based in Hamilton. He is an Instructor in the Human Resources Management course in the Continuing Education Program at McMaster University in Hamilton, and a Part-time Faculty member and Professor in the Randy Pilon Business School at Sheridan College in Mississauga where he teaches a first year course in Human Resources Management. Stephen has been a frequent guest speaker at various Human Resources seminars and conferences in sponsored by the Hamilton, Niagara and Halton Chapters of the HRPA.
